Debuting ahead of Diwali, this landmark public art installation by Chila Burman celebrated light, illumination, and inclusivity, drawing on the artist’s Punjabi-Liverpudlian heritage and the rich diversity of London’s communities.Commissioned for Leicester Square Gardens, the work directly responded to the William Shakespeare fountain and its inscription “There is no darkness but ignorance.” The installation featured a trail of glowing artworks across Leicester Square, with neon interventions at the London Trocadero, The Hippodrome Casino, Westminster Reference Library, and The Londoner Hotel. A special screening of Burman’s film Dada and The Punjabi Princess illuminated the Piccadilly Lights, with the project featured on prime-time ITV and BBC News
