Helen Sear is a British visual artist whose practice focuses on the co-existence of human, animal and natural environments.

Celebrated for innovative photography techniques, Sear explores how her work influences our perception of the natural world, often manipulating her subject matter to encourage the viewer to reconsider not only the relationship between the various elements portrayed, but also the sense of place conveyed within her compositions.

Here, across this photographic triptych, seascapes and shorelines form shimmering backdrops with bold horizon lines, against which delicate tree motifs are superimposed. At once the viewer is transported across an ethereal woodland towards a coastal vista, all the time wrapped in an enigmatic series of glistening hues.

Sear studied at Slade School of Fine Art, part of the nearby UCL campus. She was the first woman to represent Wales with a solo exhibition at the 2015 Venice Biennale and was elected Royal Academician at London’s Royal Academy in 2024.

Commissioned by 1 Triton Square by British Land and Royal London Asset Management. Curated by New Public in partnership with Cockpit Studios.
